Prologis is developing a new logistics facility in Neu Wulmstorf near Hamburg: Approximately 22,000 square meters of logistics, mezzanine and office space are being built on a site of about 35,400 square meters. On October 18, together with local business and political representatives, the Prologis team started construction with a ceremonial groundbreaking. Completion of the facility is scheduled for the third quarter of 2023.

Prologis already owns two facilities in Neu Wulmstorf with a total of almost 55,000 square meters. A customer from the fashion industry is among the tenants of the existing space.

“Visible growth projects in our local economy and the creation of jobs are important rays of hope in these difficult times. Economic growth and sustainability have to be considered and developed together,” says Tobias Handtke, mayor of the municipality of Neu Wulmstorf.

Focus on Sustainability
The logistics facility will have a rooftop photovoltaic system from which future tenants will be able to draw electricity. In addition, the building will be developed according to circular design. In accordance with the principles of the circular economy, Prologis accounted for the entire life cycle of the facility right from the planning stage, including dismantling and reuse, and will use sustainable building materials supported by a material passport. An additional aim is to obtain gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

The well-being of the facility’s future employees also plays a major role. With the help of selected WELL Building features, such as elaborately designed outdoor recreation and break areas and an herb garden, Prologis ensures the facility offers a pleasant and healthy working environment. This people-centric approach gives the future building occupant an advantage when attracting labor.

Commitment to the Region
The Prologis team took the opportunity at the groundbreaking ceremony to thank the people of Neu Wulmstorf for being good neighbors. Both the Neu Wulmstorf Foundation and LeA e.V. Integrative Lebens- und Arbeitsgemeinschaft Neu Wulmstorf received a donation of 5,000 euros each. The Neu Wulmstorf Foundation supports many different charitable projects in the area, such as daycare centers, hospice and the local elementary school. The LeA e.V. association provides a home for people with support needs, a day support center and integration assistance at school.

Advantageous Location
“Thanks to its location in the Hamburg metropolitan region, Neu Wulmstorf enticed us years ago,” says Philipp Feige, vice president, head of capital deployment at Prologis. “The good connections to Hamburg, and the excellent public transport accessibility for employees, qualify Neu Wulmstorf as an excellent location in the region. The completion of the A26 motorway, which is currently under construction, will further enrich the location.”

Prologis Park Neu Wulmstorf is characterized by optimal accessibility to the sales markets. The logistics park is located directly on the federal highway B73, a well-developed bypass with access to the A7 motorway to the east and the A1 motorway to the south. Hamburg Airport can be reached in about 55 minutes, and the container terminal Hamburg-Waltershof is about 20 kilometers away.
