Van Eupen, a contract logistics service provider headquartered in Essen in North Rhine-Westphalia, has a nationwide network of locations. In response to increasing customer demand, the company decided to expand its warehouse logistics operations in the Ruhr area and sought an experienced logistics real estate developer for the project.

Unna, in the east of the Ruhr area, where Prologis had already developed a high-class 43,000 square meter distribution center for van Eupen in 2008, proved the ideal location. Van Eupen chose Prologis to develop the new facility because the company is satisfied with its existing building.

Thanks to excellent collaboration with the city of Unna, the district of Unna and the regional society for economic development, Prologis was able to purchase 66,500 square meters of land near the existing van Eupen facility. Prologis plans to develop a 41,000-square-meter distribution center on the site.

Van Eupen has taken a long-term lease on 23,500 square meters of the facility, leaving 17,500 square meters available. Construction started in April 2017, and Prologis plans to have the entire project completed by the end of 2017. Van Eupen is poised to commence operations in its section of the facility as early as fall 2017.

The location in the eastern part of the Ruhr area is well connected to road transport via the nearby A1, A2 and A44 highways. Unna is also close to the most important rail and inland waterways in the region. In addition, Dortmund Airport is just 12 kilometers away. Prologis aims to have the facility certified by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
