Prologis to Develop Kerpen Logistics Facility

Düsseldorf (August 28, 2017) – Prologis, Inc. today announced it will develop a new logistics facility totaling approximately 52,500 square meters in Kerpen, Germany. Prologis will lease about 23,000 square meters of the new facility to Computacenter AG & Co. oHG, Europe’s leading cross-manufacturer IT service provider. The remaining 29,500 square meters is a speculative development.

The site features convenient access to the A4 and A61 highways. Construction on the Kerpen project began in August 2017, with an expected completion date set for the second quarter of 2018. Computacenter will use the space for IT hardware storage, the configuration of custom hardware and repair services.

Computacenter is already established in Kerpen with a smaller logistics facility. “Our current distribution center no longer offers sufficient capacity for us,” said Burkhardt Langen, head of facility management at Computacenter. “The new, larger facility from Prologis will provide the potential for growth and optimization that we need. We look forward to continuing to work with Prologis and the city of Kerpen.”

The building Prologis will feature an overhead clearance of 12.20 meters, and part of it will comprise two stories. It is being built with the goal of a gold certificate from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Once completed, Prologis will take over the property management for the facility.

“After intensive preparation, we were able to work with the city of Kerpen to create the ideal preconditions for Computacenter’s new distribution center,” said Alexander Heubes, senior vice president, country manager, Prologis Germany. “Keeping Computacenter in Kerpen was always a priority, and their presence secures more than 700 jobs for the region.” In 2016, Prologis delivered a logistics facility with approximately 41,000 square meters to British e-commerce retailer AO in the nearby city of Bergheim, close to the A61.
