On September 9, 2021, Prologis officially commenced development of a logistics facility of approximately 24,000 square meters in Grolsheim in the eastern Rhineland-Palatinate of Germany. Guests from business and politics were invited to the start of construction.

Customer demand for logistics space in the region is high, and the new facility will be Prologis’ second distribution center at the Albert-Schweitzer-Strasse site. The new logistics facility is scheduled for completion in June 2022 and will consist of two units. Twenty-five dock levelers and two ground-level hall entrances will enable users to handle goods quickly. Operation of the logistics facility will be possible around the clock, seven days a week.

A Focus on Growing in Germany
Prologis is developing the facility speculatively. “Demand for logistics space remains high,” says Björn Thiemann, senior vice president, country manager Germany at Prologis. “We are therefore putting a clear focus on growing in Germany, so we can offer our customers an even larger portfolio. The development in Grolsheim fits perfectly with our strategy. With the second distribution center, we are strengthening a location where we are already active. We are well networked locally and work together with the community in a spirit of trust. We are therefore particularly pleased to be able to lay the foundation stone for a new project in this important economic region.”

Sustainable Planning
For Prologis, sustainability plays an important role in every new project. “In Grolsheim, we are offering future users a building that meets the highest sustainability standards,” says Stefan Siegle, director, capital deployment Germany, Prologis. “This puts the facility well above the legal requirements. For example, it has LED lighting throughout and a powerful photovoltaic system. These features not only conserve resources, they also reduce operating costs for future users.”

Ideal Location
Prologis Park Grolsheim, located between Bingen in the north and Bad Kreuznach in the south, is just a two-minute drive from the A60/A61 freeway intersection—an important link between the southern Rhineland-Palatinate and the western Rhineland. The location is part of the Frankfurt am Main metropolitan area, one of the most important economic regions in Germany.
