Düsseldorf / Berlin, February 2, 2026 – On a revitalized industrial site in Berlin-Lichtenberg, Prologis has completed a new 19,391 square meter logistics center on Plauener Straße. Alliance Healthcare Deutschland, Picnic and Elis use the facility to supply medicine, food and workwear as well as protective clothing to several Berlin districts and the surrounding area. Around 270 people will be employed at the site by the three companies. This contributes to local employment in the field of essential services.

Alliance Healthcare Deutschland GmbH, a pharmaceutical wholesaler and healthcare logistics provider, reliably ensures the distribution of medicine and the supply of patients in the Berlin metropolitan region and beyond from the new facility. The building has been designed in several ways to meet the requirements of healthcare logistics: unloading bays for small trucks instead of a traditional loading yard shorten distances within the facility. Temperature-controlled storage areas with a constant temperature of 17 to 21 °C support pharmaceutical storage.

Prologis has also signed a long-term lease agreement with last-mile food delivery company Picnic. The space combines modern office and warehouse areas with docks for delivery vehicles. Specially adapted access roads and loading zones for electric vans support efficient loading and unloading in last-mile operations. As a growing company, Picnic benefits from its location in Berlin-Lichtenberg, which efficiently ensures local supply to the Lichtenberg district as well as surrounding neighborhoods and meets rising consumer demand.

Elis is a leading international textile service provider with 49 locations in Germany and Austria. The company supplies customers in the hospital, care, hotel, catering, industrial, trade, and cleanroom sectors with workwear, protective clothing, and flat linen. At its location in Berlin-Lichtenberg, Elis organizes the storage and handling of workwear and protective clothing for businesses in Berlin. Textile supplies are provided efficiently and sustainably: clean and hygienically processed laundry is delivered from regional Elis laundries, distributed to smaller vehicles on site, and delivered to customers. At the same time, the depot serves as a collection point for used laundry, which is picked up by Elis trucks and taken to the branches for reprocessing. With the growth of Elis, logistics requirements have increased in recent years. The new building offers sufficient gates for parallel loading and unloading, shortens loading times, and ensures even more efficient textile supply in Berlin and Brandenburg.

Logistics center with elevated parking deck
The site is located on Plauener Straße in Berlin-Lichtenberg in a mature commercial environment in the city center. As an urban distribution point for local delivery, it is designed for short cycles and parallel processing. The elevated parking deck allows for the simultaneous loading of several small trucks and vans with short distances from the storage area to the vehicle, shorter stand-by times, and more stable departure windows, which increases process reliability. The electrical infrastructure is prepared for future charging facilities and supports the use of electric transporters in operation.

“Berlin needs reliable, urban supply infrastructure—and that's exactly where we're investing,” says Hannes Möller, capital deployment manager, responsible for the Berlin area at Prologis. “In Lichtenberg, we are revitalizing existing properties instead of sealing more land and managing the site for the long term. This enables our customers to deliver medicines, food, and workwear to the city quickly and predictably.”

Prologis has implemented a comprehensive sustainability concept at the site: the all-electric building does not use any fossil fuels and is powered by an air source heat pump; a 1.2 MWp photovoltaic system supports the energy supply. The property is prepared for e-mobility, allowing charging points to be installed in up to 140 parking spaces. Employee well-being is taken into account holistically: healthy interiors with measures for air quality and daylight utilization in accordance with WELL Core criteria are complemented by the Parklife concept—with green recreation areas, a pavilion, table tennis table, and bike repair shop. The area is ecologically enhanced by a green noise barrier to the residential buildings, green facades, birdhouses, and around 45 new trees. Prologis is aiming for DGNB platinum certification.

With a total of around 250,000 square meters of logistics space in Berlin, including one building currently under development, Prologis is well established in the Berlin market. The completion of a logistics building in Tegel in the first half of the year and the new distribution site in Lichtenberg follow the same approach: revitalizing existing space, urban planning and long-term site management. This model forms the basis for meeting further demand in Berlin with short distances and structured, electrified processes.
