The Ruhr district is the largest metropolitan area in Germany and one of the most densely populated regions in Europe. The location offers a number of advantages, especially for logistics: a significant consumer market and highly qualified workforce, as well as numerous highways, interstate roads, railways and the Port of Duisburg, the largest inland port in Europe. Over 3,000 logistics companies are based throughout the Ruhr district.

It is for these reasons that JLL (Jones Lang LaSalle), a global real estate consulting firm, produced a video naming the Ruhr district one of the most significant logistics hotspots in Germany. Thomas Karmann, managing director, regional head Northern Europe, Prologis, gives an interview on camera in which he highlights three key strengths of the logistics region: its numerous manufacturers, central location in Europe and excellent infrastructure, a prerequisite for effective logistics.

At almost four minutes long, the video provides corporate insights, as well as facts, figures and dates relating to the Ruhr district. “The region still has room for businesses to set up on former industrial sites. This means that the sites of old steelworks are revitalized decontaminated and repurposed. One excellent example is Westfalenhütte, the former site of a steelworks that was demolished shortly after the year 2000,” says Karmann in the interview.
