And the winner is: Prologis! The Logistics Real Estate Initiative (Initiative Logistikimmobilien) presented the 2019 Logix Award to an innovative new construction project developed by Prologis in Muggensturm, near Karlsruhe, Germany. We built the carbon-neutral distribution center for the French cosmetics manufacturer L’Oréal.

Approximately 100 new building projects were submitted to the Logix competition this year. The environmentally friendly design of the logistics facility in Muggensturm impressed the jury, which selected our new building project as the winner.

Philipp Feige, vice president, market officer Germany, Prologis, accepted the Logix Award at the Expo Real in Munich on October 7, 2019. “We are honored to receive this award,” said Philipp Feige. “With this carbon-neutral logistics center in Muggensturm, we have set new standards for future buildings in line with L’Oréal’s and Prologis’ sustainability strategies. The Logix Award is a wonderful acknowledgment of the fact that we create genuine value for our customers and partners. Innovation and sustainable development are at the forefront of everything we do.”

Prologis equipped the facility in Muggensturm with reinforced insulation and a 2.0 MWp photovoltaic system, among other features. L’Oréal relies on green power for its operations, which is generated from wind turbines, for example. Rainwater is used to irrigate green spaces and clean the halls. Before Prologis received the building permit for the logistics center in Muggensturm, we defined and implemented detailed wildlife conservation measures, including vegetated replacement habitat on the roof for skylarks.

Spanning over 100,000 square meters, the distribution center in Muggensturm is L’Oréal Group’s largest in the world. L’Oréal supplies its markets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland from the facility. L’Oréal and Prologis celebrated the official opening of the innovative logistics building in May 2019.
