DÜSSELDORF (October 16, 2019) – Prologis, Inc., the global leader in logistics real estate, will begin developing a logistics facility in Bremen in the 4th quarter of 2019. The building will be built speculatively with an area of approximately 17,000 square meters. The project is scheduled for completion in the 3rd quarter of 2020.

Prologis acquired the 31,500-square-meter property in Bremen’s industrial park from WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH in July. Its infill location – meaning a site in an urban area with excellent access to the local transportation infrastructure – is particularly attractive and is in line with Prologis’ strategy of offering its customers logistics space close to the consumer. Growth in the logistics real estate sector in Germany is being driven by structural shifts towards global trade, changes in consumer behavior, the rise of e-commerce, and supply chain restructuring. “As the logistics sector grows, so does the demand for high-quality logistics facilities,” said Philipp Feige, vice president, market officer Prologis Germany. In order to meet the increasing demand for strategically located warehouse space, Prologis has set its sights on further growth in selected German markets – including Bremen.

“WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH has been a strong and reliable partner since we entered the Bremen market over ten years ago,” said Philipp Feige. “That’s why we are extremely pleased to soon be able to launch this speculative project in this fast-growing market.”

Flexible and Sustainable

The property is located near the Bremen steel mill with excellent connections to the A27 highway, the port, and Bremen city center. "With around 1,500 companies and approximately 40,000 employees in the maritime economy and logistics, the state of Bremen is one of the most important locations for the sector in Germany," says Andreas Heyer, chairman of the management board of WFB. "The Bremen Industrial Park offers the best conditions for this. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the motorway, railway and port. We are very pleased that we have once again been able to support Prologis in the implementation of a project and thus jointly lay another foundation stone for the beneficial development of Bremen as a strong business location."

The facility is being developed by Prologis in accordance with the German Sustainable Building Council’s gold standard. The building will be equipped with LED lighting systems, will have 12-meter ceilings, and can be divided into up to three separate units.

“Bremen is one of our key markets in Germany,” said Philipp Feige. “This speculative development significantly enhances our portfolio. At the same time, it allows us to offer our customers new, high-quality logistics space in a prime urban location.” As a long-term owner, Prologis will be responsible for property management for the future tenant, which includes facility and landscape management, among other services.
